Literacy

Shared Reading:  The children and I read a large print big book together that is above their independent reading level.  We practice fluency, comprehension strategies, discuss vocabulary and strategies for decoding.

Guided Reading: The children work with me individually or in small groups at their instructional level.

Let them Fly!

"Learning is their journey.           Let them navigate.                    Push them to explore.             Watch them discover.         Encourage their questions.         Allow them to struggle.         Support their thinking."

Close Reading: The children practice careful and purposeful reading for better, deeper comprehension both in fiction and non-fiction texts.

Readers Workshop:

The Purpose of the Reading Workshop is to teach students strategies for reading and comprehension.  The workshop model gives me the opportunity to differentiate and meet the needs of my students.

Reading Workshop helps to ignite a love of reading and gives students chances to practice reading strategies independently and with guidance.

The Workshop begins with a short mini lesson that focuses on skills for proficient reading and comprehending.

Then the students work on 5 components that last about 20 minutes. The components are:

Read to Self

Read to Partner

Listen to Reading

Work on Writing

Word Work

During this time I work with students in Guided Reading lessons.
